In 1843 the surveyor John Campbell bought 21 acres of land at Stokes Point, but only owned it for several years, after which the Point was subdivided into 8 lots. One of the early owners was Phillip Callan, who owned a brick works at Sulphur Beach on the Point’s eastern side. In 1867 the end of the Point was subdivided off by the government and for a time was known as the Township of Woodside. Most of Northcote Point’s oldest houses, including, Quinton Villa below (now standing in the shadow of the bridge) can be found in this area.
