15 years of research went into this book which is written as if it was Henry himself who penned it as a journal covering his thoughts, emotions, decisions and events throughout his life. Through Margaret George’s writing I felt some sympathy for this king, caught between the powerful grip of the Catholic Church, and the pressure a male heir to the throne. King Henry did what he felt he had to do but was often deceived by those he trusted. A compelling book that I couldn’t put down.
