I chose this thriller as I was challenged to read a novel from a genre I don’t usually read, and it was highly recommended. I started to read somewhat reluctantly, but very soon I was drawn in to the story and couldn’t put it down.
David Hunter is a forensic anthropologist, called to the remote island of Runa in the Outer Hebrides to investigate a woman’s burned body found in an old cottage. The island becomes isolated during the full force of an Atlantic storm, cutting off all power and communications to the mainland. As Hunter and several locals search for clues, the killer strikes again and again. Beckett has created a powerful, tension-filled plot, with sinister twists and turns.
I did enjoy this book, but I thought the ending was rushed and unfinished.
