Sunny Cooper is still recovering from her unusual upbringing on a commune, dealing with her relationship with her mother and haunted by her younger sister's death, when she suffers another personal tragedy and decides to start life afresh. She moves to the small town of Harmony on San Miguel Island. She is slowly becoming part of the small community, taking a new job and learning to ride a motorcycle, when another shock causes her to reevaluate her life.
Full of interesting characters that you care about, you are never quite sure how Sunny will deal with her issues and opportunities, and the author cleverly leads you to the end of the book where she offers you possibilities so that you can choose what you want for Sunny.
