We are once again invited into the adventurous life of academic Robert Langdon, a Harvard University professor who constantly finds himself in life-threatening situations while solving ancient mysteries. In this book, Langdon must unlock more ancient mysteries to save his friend Peter Solomon from a vicious kidnapping. The novel follows three different storylines; the story of Langdon and the CIA’s mission to solve an ancient mystery as a portal to an attempted murder, the story of Katherine Solomon, Peter’s sister, who tries to escape an intruder into her secret lab, and the story of Mal’akh, a tattoo-covered villain whose motives reveal a shocking twist to the novel’s ending. The story takes place in Washington DC, the US capital, and we are taken deep into the basement of the capital with the discovery of hidden and secret rooms, linked to a Mason conspiracy. This work of Dan Brown’s is perhaps one of his better written books, as it is packed with action, excitement, mystery, science and ancient history.
