This is a sequel to The Diary of Pelly D, and is set in the new colonies 10 years after the gene wars of the City Five and the concealed atrocities of the first book. ‘Sisters always stick together’, and Kat and Tanka face many challenges to their sisterhood and safety as they move with their foster parents to a supposedly peaceful future at the New Frontier. There are clues however, that all is not what it seems, heroes may have a dark side, and there are mysterious glimpses of ‘someone,’ or maybe even ghosts, in the dead cherry orchard. Shadowy characters are revealed – those of young people who have endured unspeakable horrors and against all odds survived.
Cherry Heaven ties up the loose ends from The Diary of Pelly D as well as telling a strong new stand-alone story. It is good to meet Toni V again, and satisfying that the efforts of certain brave individuals do make a noticeable difference to the fledgling new society. It’s good also to find that revenge is found not to be the answer.
