Based on a true story which took place in 1928, Clint Eastwood directs Angelina Jolie and John Malkovich in one of the most heartrending films of the year. The film takes place in Los Angeles, where Christine Collins says goodbye to her son Walter before work, only to return home to find he has disappeared. While the film follows the mystery behind Walter’s disappearance, we are also led into the back story behind the LAPD and the troubles they face with their public reputation. Failing to impress the public with their investigation, they claim to have found Walter, but Christine insists they have the wrong child. While she decides to take this child into her care, Christine begins the quest of independently finding her missing son by exploiting the LAPD and their inability to solve a missing persons situation. This causes Christine to be investigated as an incompetent mother rejecting “her own child,” and whose mental stability will soon be questioned.

The film depicts a genuinely accurate representation of the life of Christine Collins and life in Los Angeles during the late 1920s, and Angelina Jolie’s best performance is displayed in this film. Her impeccable acting ability as a mother whose only motive is to find her son is believable and gathers impetus throughout the film. It is, however, is a harrowing story. Be prepared for a heart wrenching narrative, filled with many tears and heartaches and a non-generic ending.<div>
