Our Vision, Mission and Role

Our Vision: A library card in every hand

North Shore Libraries will continue to grow and develop to ensure we remain a relevant and vital part of the community. We will add value to the quality of life of North Shore residents through our services and resources. Our vision is to provide maximum access to services and resources for all citizens in the North Shore community and support people's choices for recreation and life-long learning.

Our Mission

North Shore Libraries contributes to the social, cultural, economic and educational well being of our community by providing innovative and customer focussed resources and services delivered by trained and professional staff.

Our Role

The four key areas that describe our role are:

  • Heritage - strengthen the unique cultural identity of Aotearoa New Zealand with an emphasis on Te Raki Pae Whenua - North Shore City.
  • Learning for life - develop and support a learning community and a skilled workforce.
  • Lifestyle - support people's choices for a full, healthy and active lifestyle and personal enrichment.
  • Community Building - support and empower the community's social and democratic process including the dissemination of Council information and the introduction of e-government initiatives, and provide a positive environment to reflect the diversity of North Shore City.
