Joining North Shore Libraries

Who can use the libraries?

  • Anyone of any age can use the libraries and their services. To take books home you will need to get a library card.

How much does it cost?

  • All North Shore City residents and ratepayers may join the North Shore Libraries for free.*
  • If you live outside North Shore City you can join as a subscription borrower - there is a charge for this.
  • Non-North Shore residents 18yrs and under attending educational institutions on the North Shore may join for free. Proof of enrolment is required.

How do I get a card?

  • You can join online at www.shorelibraries.govt.nz or at any North Shore Library.
  • To collect your card you will need to bring with you:
    • ONE form of identifi cation i.e. NZ drivers license, Passport, Credit Card (not your eftpos card), Community Services card, etc.
    • Proof of your Address on the North Shore i.e. Bank letter, Phone or Power bill, Rates notice, etc.
  • If you are under 18 you will need a parent or guardian with you to sign for you and show their identification
  • You will be asked to agree to the following conditions:
    • That the information provided on the registration form is correct.
    • To notify the library of any change to your details.
    • To notify the library immediately if your card is lost or stolen.
    • Accept responsibility for all items issued and charges incurred against your registration.
    • Understand that the services of a debt collection agency may be used to recover outstanding debts and related costs.
    • Agree to follow the bylaws on library use

* The majority of library services are funded from North Shore City rates.
