Location

Birkenhead Library is currently based at the Birkenhead Leisure Centre, Mahara Ave., Birkenhead. Mahara Ave is off the Highbury By-pass. The library is in the back of the gym area on the ground floor. Entry is through the front of the Leisure Centre [Picture Available].

A lift is available in the entry foyer of the building for disabled access.

There is general parking available outside the Leisure Centre and angle parking in John Court St. outside the War Memorial Park.

All library services will continue as normal. We look forward to seeing you at our temporary site.

The new Birkenhead Library and Civic Building is to be built on the corner of Hinemoa St and Rawene St, next to the Nell Fisher Reserve. This is due for completion in 2009. Temporary library services are operating from the Birkenhead Leisure Centre, Mahara Ave., Birkenhead.

Free Bus Service

A free bus service runs every Wednesday morning between the temporary Birkenhead Library in Mahara Avenue and the ASB bus stop in Highbury.

About

Birkenhead Library was first opened in 1949 and housed the Birkenhead Area Office and Citizens Advice Bureau. The library is home to the Chelsea Sugar Refinery Archives dating back to the late 19th century. Please contact the Birkenhead Library for more information.
