Bridge to Terabithia (2007)
From the Newbury Award winning book by Katherine Paterson, this is the story of Jess and his friend Leslie who create a magical kingdom in the woods near their homes and the tragic outcome. Partly filmed in Auckland, it stars Josh Hutcherson and Anna Sophia Robb as the main characters.

Charlotte's Web (2006)
A new live action version of the favourite story by E B White featuring Dakota Fanning as Fern, the little girl who befriends Wilbur the pig. The animal’s voices are played by an all-star cast including Julia Roberts (Charlotte), John Cleese, Oprah Winfrey, Robert Redford, Jennifer Garner and Kathy Bates.


Curious George (2006)
Margret Rey’s cheeky monkey George stars in his own animated movie where his fun-loving nature gets him in many scrapes after he stows away to America and befriends the man in the Yellow Hat (Ted). Will Ferrell and Drew Barrymore and Dick Van Dyke are among the vocal cast.

Flicka (2006)
There have been a number of adaptations of Mary O’Hara’s book over the years including the 1943 classic starring Roddy McDowell. This version has a female heroine, Katy, who wants to work on her family ranch against the wishes of her father. She adopts a wild mustang horse, Flicka, who like Katy, has a rebellious streak. After finding out that Katy is sneaking out to train the horse, her father sells Flicka to a rodeo. In her attempt to win Flicka back, Katy has to enter a dangerous race.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)
Another instalment in the popular Harry Potter series is planned for release with the same cast returning to Hogwarts for a fifth story of magic and adventure.

How to eat fried worms (2006)
When Billy starts at a new school, he ends up being challenged by the school bully to eat worms to win a bet. The bullies invent as many ways as they can to make the worms taste disgusting to make Billy lose.

Inkheart (2008)
Another of Cornelia Funke’s books to be adapted to a movie, Inkheart tells of twelve year old Meggie who discovers her father can make characters come to life by reading books aloud. When her father is kidnapped, she and her real and imaginary friends go about rescuing him. Brendan Fraser, Paul Bettany, Kathy Bates, Jim Broadbent, Helen Mirren and Andy Serkis will be among the cast of this movie currently in production.

The Chronicles of Narnia : Prince Caspian (2008)
The fourth title in the Narnia series is being filmed in Auckland and Prague. Prince Caspian summons the Pevensie children to help him gain his rightful place as king.

The Spiderwick Chronicles (2008)
Adapted from the series by Tony DiTerlizzi, this movie tells the story of the Grace twins and their sister Mallory who discover an unusual book written by their great uncle Arthur Spiderwick about fairies and other creatures. Freddie Highmore from ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ and ’Finding Neverland’ will play the twins, and Sarah Bolger who was Sabina Pleasure in ‘Stormbreaker” is their older sister Mallory.

The Thief Lord (2006)
Cornelia Funke’s original story is about a group of street children who live in Venice. They survive by stealing and committing petty crimes and are lead by a thirteen year old who calls himself the Thief Lord. Two orphans on the run from their cruel relatives join the gang and journey with them to a forgotten land. The cast includes Alexei Sayle and Vanessa Redgrave.

The water horse (2007)
Kirstie and Angus discover an egg which hatches into a sea monster so big, they have to keep it in Loch Ness. This movie is based on the story by Dick King-Smith (the author of Babe) and filming locations are in Scotland and New Zealand with special effects by New Zealand’s Weta Digital.
