Friends of the Library

Are you passionate about your local library?

Would you like to be more involved?

To talk to one of the library staff or phone us on 486-8600 and ask for your local library. We look forward to seeing you.

Why have a Friends of the Library group?

Everyone needs friends -- institutions as well as people need them for support.

What can the Friends of the Library do?

  • Promote the interests of the Library to the City Council and the local community
  • Encourage our Library Staff who give us excellent service
  • Help with local history projects
  • Host activities in the library, for example author visits
  • Assist with community learning projects using library resources such as our learning centre

We are proud of North Shore Libraries, we are the hearth of your community. As a "Friend" your involvement can be active or passive according to your wishes. Whichever way, your support will be greatly valued by the library staff and the community.

  • The library welcomes borrowers' suggestions for additions to our collection
  • Books can also be ordered through interloan from the National Library and other libraries at a small charge
  • Most libraries hold regular lapsit and storytime sessions, and have picture books and puzzles

  • There are educational books, videos, DVDs and fiction for children and teenagers and schools can mount displays of work
  • The latest adult fiction releases are available, also large print
  • The library holds a local history document collection but is always glad of new contributions
