How can I join the library?

Membership to the North Shore Libraries is free to all residents on the North Shore. A fee based service is available to those outside the city. Join up online now or see the Memberships section for more information.

How can I reserve books over the internet?

You reserve books using the library catalogue with your library PIN. Don't have a PIN? Read the FAQ instructions below.

Reserves cost $1.00 except for Children and Young Adult cardholders who have free reserves on Children's and Young Adults materials.

How can I renew my books?

You can renew your books online using the MyInfo section of the library catalogue, over the phone, or in person with your library card.

Some titles may not be renewable over the internet in which case you may still be able to renew them over the phone or in person.

What are your opening hours?

See the Locations section for a detailed breakdown of our operating hours.

Where can I return my books?

You can return your North Shore Libraries books at any of our branches, not just the branch that you borrowed them from. For example, if you borrowed some books from Glenfield Library, and are currently in the Birkenhead area, you are welcome to drop the books into Birkenhead Library.

I'm going on Holiday, what can you do for me?

If you're going away on holiday and won't be back in time to return your books ask about an extended loan when you take the books out. Depending on where you're going, what sort of books you want to take, etc... we can offer a fair amount of flexibility for you.

The extended loan service is provided when you first take the books out. Please ask the librarian about it before the books are issued to you.

If you are currently on holiday you can renew your books online with your PIN.

How do I get a PIN?

Your library PIN lets you renew your own library books, update your membership, view your reading history, rate books you have read, and request titles you would like to read. Your PIN can be any combination of non-sequential numbers and/or letters.

Never had a PIN? Set one up yourself by accessing the MyInfo page via our Catalogue. Enter your library card barcode leaving the PIN box empty. You will be prompted to choose and confirm a new PIN.

Forgotten your PIN? Contact us - we will clear your old PIN so you can re-enter a new one. Or you may like to email us - note that our email service is not operated over the weekend. Remember to include your Full Name and membership barcode number.

Change your PIN? Enter your library barcode and PIN details via the MyInfo page. Select "Change Your PIN" option.
