Take a journey with Bruce Hay through the streets of Northcote…

Starting from Northcote Library, Bruce will take you south of Onewa Road and will speak about different points of interest, historic sites, the origin of street names and fill the journey with interesting information and facts about the Northcote area and its history.

Emphasis is the area south of Onewa Road and Northcote Point.

Bruce Hay lives locally and was the Northcote Town Clerk for Northcote Borough Council. He has an extensive knowledge about Northcote and is happy to share this with you all…

Sunday afternoon with Councillor Tony Holman - 'History of Northcote'

Councillor Tony Holman will present a history of Northcote, featuring a Powerpoint presentation which includes photographs from the book ‘A history of Northcote’ by Judith Christmas. A wealth of information will be covered including Sulphur Beach, Northcote Wharf, the pioneer settlers, becoming a borough in 1908 and the incredible changes that have taken place in Northcote over the years.

Questions will be welcome at the conclusion of the presentation.

Councillor Tony Holman has been a Northcote resident since 1950. He is a former Northcote Borough Councillor (1970) and currently a North Shore City Councillor. Councillor Holman has been awarded the QSO (Queen’s Service Order) and the New Zealand 1990 Commemorative Medal for services to New Zealand.

Sunday Afternoon with David Verran - 'Northcote & the North Shore to 1959'

Come along and hear David Verran speak about the history of the North Shore, and Northcote in particular, up to May 1959 and the opening of the Harbour Bridge. David has researched the history of the North Shore over many years which will ensure that this will be an interesting and informative presentation.

Questions will be welcome at the conclusion of the presentation.

David is currently President of the North Shore Historical Society and Local History Librarian at Auckland City Libraries.

Join us to hear Peter McArthur talk about his past and experiences with Northcote Borough Council. Peter has a reputation as a gifted raconteur, is well known for his sense of humour, and has a long working history with the Council. This promises to be a fun afternoon of memories and recollections…

Peter McArthur joined Northcote Borough Council as an Assistant Town Clerk in 1971 and spent 18 years with the borough until amalgamation. His last three years were as Borough Manager. He is currently employed by North Shore City Council as City Secretary.

Questions will be welcome at the conclusion of the presentation.

Meet Kate Mosse: Author and Orange Prize founder
