Awataha Marae

Northcote Library has a special association with the Awataha Marae which has a reference only collection of predominately non-fiction material. The collection can be searched using the North Shore Libraries online catalogue.

Māori Reference Collection

The Māori reference collection is a special collection of books and other materials about Māori language, history and culture held at Northcote Library, Te Whare Mātauranga o Te Onewa.

Most of the Māori reference collection is for use in the library only, however we have duplicate copies of most books which are available for borrowing. All the material in the collection can be searched using the library catalogue.

Multicultural Collection

Northcote Library holds a large collection of Chinese and Korean language books and newspapers. Newspapers include:

• Chinese Express
• Epoch Times
• Mandarin Times
• New Times Weekly
• New Zealand Chinese Herald

Note: You cannot reserve these items.

Northcote Local History Collection

The Northcote Local History collection contains a wide variety of materials about Northcote, including:

• Northcote Athanaeum newspaper (1905-1928)
• Photographs (card index available) on a variety of areas including:
  • Auckland Harbour Bridge and Motorway construction
• Northcote Borough Council
• Northcote Shopping Centre
• Wharf and Ferries.
• Vertical File clippings. Topics include:
  • Awataha Marae
  • Auckland Harbour Bridge
  • Education
  • Northcote Borough Council
• Northcote Shopping Centre
• Parks and Reserves
• Roading and Transport
